PCAP (Acoustic Version)

from PCAP [Single] by Jack Cookson

lyrics

Advertisements of paper and of pixel fight for my attention
They’re hastening the decay of my long dead imagination
I pinch the flesh on my palms & trace the lines on my arms
As if I might find a flicker of good fortune
But I know as much about my purpose here as a light left on in an empty room

So excuse me while I use the facilities to amaze myself at some poor dickhead’s ability
To hold a camera to himself, as if upon it depends his health
I suppose it does if you want to make a living as an artist
Deafness or blindness, I don’t know what to choose If that is what I’ve got to do to justify writing tunes

I’m warming myself so aimlessly By the pale glow of my mobile phone’s screen Trying to find some poetry in my anxiety But "no rose of prose is blooming from the soil that begrimes my worried mind" - It says to me

And if your body is a temple, mine's a church converted into a flat
A man with a clawhammer fixation resides somewhere in my back
And whoever’s in my head, they like to sit up all night in bed
Screaming lines from books I’m told I should have read
and they’ve got an extensive scratched CD collection

Still warming myself so aimlessly
By the pale glow of my mobile phone screen
Trying to find some poetry in my anxiety
Basking oh so gormlessly
In the illusion of salvation that pecking words into PCAP gives to me Asking the birds “why do they sing?”

Probably purely for the love of the music
They don’t have to move to fucking London to do it
But of course they can, far more easily than me
And when I step into Paddington station they can shit all over me
Step into paddington station, they can

Still warming myself so aimlessly By the pale glow of my mobile phone screen
